Right from the British period the archives, created essentially for administrative reference, was opened to unofficial access by scholars and information seekers from various walks of life. The archives currently is a regular haunt of researchers, especially those engaging with various facets of colonial and post-colonial history of the country. Because of the unique nature of records, access to archives is restricted.
